A Masculine Living Room with Bold, Desaturated Colors: Day Session Dairies

Last week I drove out to beautiful Port Sheldon to a gorgeous house just blocks form Lake Michigan. My task was to help with a living room design of a uniquely shaped space for a couple who'd just relocated from California and had sold all their furniture with their previous house. This will be a super quick run through of the space, design, and plan, but if you have any questions on specifics, just shoot me a message via the site's contact form!

The Living Room Space Before:

Goals for the space:

  • Seat at least 6

  • Keep walkway to deck clear for easy hot tub access

  • Easy-to-move accent chairs and option for additional seating

  • Create cozy nooks wherever possible

  • Let the cabin style of the house sing

  • Clients described their design style as "Modern Viking Cabin"

The clients weren't afraid of color and loved natural elements, so I chose to start with rich mossy greens with orangey browns, and go from there. I used lots of wood elements, warm metals, various natural textures, and let the whole thing sing with a massive abstract painting that brought all the elements together.
