A Completely New Basement Design for a New-To-Michigan Family of Three

A single arm chair in an unfinished basement

Last week's Designed in a Day session was a fun one! My clients had just relocated to Michigan from out-of-state, and their new house had a basement alllllll ready to be finished. I love a blank slate! Our goal was to create a basement design layout that included a guest room, full bath, living/game area, and wet bar with bar seating. Ahead of time, I sent these clients to my go-to flooring/tile/countertop source, so they had already selected their Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring, countertop, backsplash, and cabinet color for the bar area. They also had a large sectional sofa they planned to use in the area.

With those details in mind, I got to work on a design plan! Also, ya'll know I love a furry coworker…here's a shot of my buddy from the sesh (ain't he cuuuuute?):

The Basement Design

OKAY! Here's what I came up with...first up is the overall layout. You can see we had plenty of space to add a large guest room with walk-in-ish closet, a full bath with a walk in shower, and storage space at the bottom of the stairs on both sides.

We added a game table, stadium style seating behind the sectional, and a massive built-in entertainment wall.

In the bottom left, we created a bar nook that would have a fairly large sized U-shaped bar area with bar seating for three. Both the living and bar areas would have TVs—this is going to be the ultimate entertaining space!

We pulled some options for bar seating behind the sectional sofa:

This is going to be the perfect place for hosting out-of-town guests, watching the game, and just generally hanging out with people they love. And the best part is—they didn't break the bank on design because we were able to tackle all of this in just a single Designed in a Day session!

And if YOU'RE ready to tackle your own project, just tap the button below to tell me about your project, and I'll shoot you a link to schedule a free Discovery Call.

Thanks for hanging out with me here!

XOXO, Lauren
