Taking a Saugatuck Great Room from Dark and Dated to Classy and Cozy | Project Reveal

Ah, friends, it's finally here! We've been SO excited to share this one with you. If you remember, a while back we gave you a sneak peek at a living room project we had underway in Saugatuck. Now, the reveal is here and we're lovin' the result!

Here are a couple BEFORE shots to give you a look at the space. As you can see, our clients were drawn towards a modern look, and while the furniture was, yes, dated, the space itself had SO much potential!

GREAT ROOM BEFORE

A before picture of our clients' dark and modern great room.

The space before was a little too dark for our clients, so our main task was to refurnish and decorate our clients' living room and dining area.

Below is our layout for the updated space:

In the living space, we chose a textured, light colored rug to contrast the dark wood floors, as well as a lighter toned sofa. We added a round cocktail table to soften up all the angles in the space, and brought in a pair of cozy armchairs for additional seating.

This space can now comfortably sit 8-10 people! More if you count snuggling up on that amazing rug. And remember those shelves we were so eager to get our hands on? We added in loads of plants and warmer tones/textures; a soft contrast to the original black and white scheme.

Another piece of this project was to add task lighting throughout the great room. Before, our clients had only overhead lighting with no other intimate alternatives. By spacing a variety of lamps throughout, we have our clients cozier lighting options for a variety of scenarios.

We also helped accessorize the room, and all that AMAZING shelf space they had in their living area made for a gorgeous display!

All throughout the space, we dabbed in lots of cozy comfort: houseplants, woven baskets, lamps and blankets. These elements add texture and bring life to the room.

We can't take credit for the pup, though...isn't she just the cutest?!?!?!

Since the space is ultimately one large room, we utilized the sofa and sofa table to distinguish the dining and living areas and help define the space.

The cozy feel continues in the dining area through textured, upholstered chairs, wood tones, and even more greenery (ya gotta have the greenery!!).

This project was a great experience from start to finish. Our clients had such a wonderful space to work with, and figuring out how to make it the best it could be for them was a joy. My favorite part? As always, leaving our happy family with a space that meets their needs and their aesthetics.
